First Day of School!

Greetings, parents!

We had a wonderful first day of school! Here is the class with the winning STEM challenge. They built castles out of index cards that were at least two feet tall, to look like a square from a bird’s eye view, without tape or staples, and without talking to their teammates! They did splendidly!

Thank you all for dropping off the classroom supplies- please stay posted for the miscellaneous item or two that may be outstanding.

The schedule may be tweaked over the next few days, however by next week it should be published on myPDS for your perusal. I mentioned to the children that Wednesday’s morning meeting is show and tell so if there is anything they would like to bring in to share this week, please encourage them to do so. They are not obliged to share anything at all, however, if they prefer.

Happily we were able to do both recesses outside today, and the teamwork was noticeable!

Tomorrow we will begin drafting our classroom contract, so your child’s homework is to think about the kind of classroom community they would like to create this year – energetic, dedicated, kind, friendly etc., and the goals they have for themselves this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can email me anytime at lhiller@poughkeepsieday.org to arrange a time to chat.
