Day 2!

The 5/6 students have officially taken over the blog! See images below of the students working hard to create this blog post! Each subject was described in collaboration as noted below each section. We are very proud of the students! See below for their comments!

Music:

We started music by talking about what we did this summer, it seems a lot of people traveled. We took the rhythm of a blues song and gave it our own lyrics. We were put into groups of two, and a part of it was we had to repeat the first lyric twice and then we had to think of a new lyric and we only had to do that once. The way it was explained to us was: first lyric, repeat, new lyric, new lyric, repeat, and over and over again. That’s what we did in music!

Spanish:
Yesterday in Spanish we met Christian who is our teacher and we had to figure out his full name in a game of hangman. We also learned that Christian enjoys painting, swimming, and dancing.

We learned a lot about Spanish in the short time we had with him. We’re always excited for the next class and we hope to learn more Spanish. Today we learned a song and dance in Spanish and we eventually are going to do it with the lower grades.

Humanities:

Yesterday in Humanities we learned that this year we are going to be talking about Africa. Our teacher is Stephen. We also made a chart of what we want to know and things we know about Africa in our notebooks. One thing we know is that there are a lot of animals like the African wild dog. Did you know that there are 54 total countries in Africa? Most of the world’s diamonds come from Africa, and 70 percent of the world’s cocoa beans also come from Africa! 1.2 billion people live in Africa and over 2,000 languages are spoken there.

Assembly:
The beginning of assembly Spiro asked us all to think about at the end of the year what award would you want to get. Most people picked the “I don’t know” award.  Jeremy picked the flying donkey award, and Friso picked the non-participation award. Olivia picked a good citizenship award, Giulietta picked the most improved handwriting award, Zadie chose the best rat award, and Alby chose the best artist award.

Lunch Recess:
When the clock hits 12:00 we always run to the door because everyone has fun at recess. It is a place to practice our social skills. It is fun to play on the swing or on the play structures or the jungle gym! We also find it fun to play with our friends in the other grades. Everyone has so much fun when we are outside.
