Making a Difference

Our Civic Engagement and Service Learning course has been focusing on issues of poverty, affordable housing and social justice on both a national and local level. As part of this process, we have partnered with Dutchess County Habitat for Humanity to help work towards their mission of confronting substandard housing through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes for those in need. Today, we toured a neighborhood in northern Poughkeepsie that Habitat is partnering with to restore and revive homes and stable living conditions in that community.

We have also researched, explored and sought solutions to issues of childhood poverty and affordable housing in Poughkeepsie and in our extended communities. Working with Habitat for Humanity, our class helped rehabilitate and refurbish a porch for a family in Poughkeepsie.
