Happy Thanksgiving!

We have had a busy couple of weeks in the 3/4 classroom!

Yesterday, Amanda read the “One Word” book in Assembly. We talked about our goals for the year in follow up to parent conferences, and thought about one word that would inspire us to have our best year yet. Then we made bracelets with our one word with students from 1-2 and PreK- K. Your students were very helpful to their younger schoolmates. Check with your student about what their one word is!

Last week, we followed up our visit with Rabbi Altman with a visit from Dr Abadi. He is from Palestine. We compared and contrasted the conversation with him to the conversation we had with Rabbi Altman and noted our key take aways. Ask your student what they remember!

In math we estimated the pumpkin seeds in a pumpkin. Then we scooped them out and talked about strategies for counting them. We counted in groups of ten, twenty and thirty, and then saw who had the closest estimate. There were 413 seeds!

We have had student teachers observing our classroom from Vassar college, and this week they each taught a lesson. We learned about rounding with money to the nearest tenth, and we learned about the making of the Macy’s Day Parade balloons, and began to write paragraphs about them that include a topic sentence, three details and a conclusion.

During choice time and lunch we had an election! Please see photos for the podium the students built – which started as a giant Jenga game and then evolved. We have a President and a Vice President of the classroom now. The term is one month, and then we will have another election.

During morning meeting, we had an impromptu visit from a 5/6th grader who led a discussion on bias. It is always fun to see our friends from the Middle School in our classroom! During show and tell, students showed their football card collection and karate outfit, we also read an article on Neanderthals !

We are really looking forward to our Thanksgiving All School Activity. Please let us know what you and your student will contribute on Monday. I am very grateful to you and your student(s) for the classroom community we are creating this fall and the productive year we are having!
