Philanthropy at PDS

An active parent and alumni body that believes in giving is critical to the success of an independent school. At Poughkeepsie Day School, we have fewer supporters than a large charity or university and because the number who give to the school is small, each gift counts tremendously.

Each year, the budget is driven in part by the rising cost of faculty salaries and benefits. It makes up more than 60% of the budget. It is essential to our program to have dedicated and talented teachers who are fairly compensated. Yet, like most independent schools, we have to carefully balance what we offer in salaries with setting a fair tuition. Striking this balance is not easy. Our teachers are creative thinkers. They are inspired by and interested in providing programmatic elements that will expand learning and opportunities for their students. Many of these enhancements – studies of the Hudson River, scientific equipment, performances… are funded by your giving.

Another key element is funding our flexible tuition program. By making Poughkeepsie Day School accessible to a wider range of families, we are supporting a diverse student body which benefits everyone.

So in order to offer fair salaries, provide enhanced programs and support a diverse student body, Poughkeepsie Day School must raise tuition, offer summer camps and ask for gifts to our Annual Fund. Please make Poughkeepsie Day School your philanthropic priority today!

Our school.
Our children.
Our philanthropic priority.
