On May 1st, students make a decision as to which college they will attend. The weeks that follow are invariably filled with around the water cooler conversations concerning “the college list”. At times, there is a temptation to interpret the college list as a litmus test for student success or for the quality and standing of a school. Don’t be tempted to follow this narrow-minded perspective. Instead, I encourage you to read “What a College List Doesn’t Tell You” by my friend Lauren, director of college counseling at The Ellis School. Previously with the admissions office at The University of Chicago, Lauren provides insight and perspective into the nuanced story that is every student’s choice. Most importantly, let’s all remember that equating a student to a college name is a preposterous discounting of their journey, potential, and choice.
