PDS is located within the Arlington school district. However, the school does not automatically close when Arlington does, nor does the school necessarily follow suit when Arlington or any other district delays the opening of school. Prior to making a decision to close, delay or remain open, the head of school consults with other districts as well as the local authorities regarding road conditions throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. The safety of PDS students and employees is always the school’s first concern.

It is customary for school communications to be in place between 5:00 and 5:30 am on the day of a delay or closing. Please be aware that rapidly changing weather and road conditions may affect the timeliness of the school’s closing announcements. In some cases, they will be in place the evening before. PDS communicates its decision to close or delay the opening of school due to inclement weather in the following ways:

• Email Broadcasts – Announcements will be sent to email addresses the school has on file.
• Hudson Valley Snow Closing and Delays – Closings and delays will also be posted here (hudsonvalleyclosings.com)

Unless you specifically hear that PDS is closed, or has scheduled its own delay, school will be in session as usual.

If PDS is delayed, the before-school program will be closed. Do not drop your children at school; the doors will be locked and buildings unsupervised according to the delayed schedule.
2 Hour Delay – School starts at 10:30am. The building will open by 10:00am.

When considering driving in less than ideal weather conditions, please use your own discretion. Allow your high school students to drive only when you feel the conditions are safe. High school students who wish to depart early from school during weather events and when the school has not closed early must have written parental permission on that day.
