Building Blocks of Community in After

If you’re ever wandering around the Gilkeson hallways, you might want to pause to see the busy block building that goes on in the After room.

The wooden blocks get continuously built up and taken down and put away again for the next week. The block area can be an active gallery that hosts installations and constructions of all varieties.

Stop by and see what our builders are creating these days.

One week you might see a human cage or a suit of armor.

Another week you could discover a solo work of precise craftsmanship.

Or a stage for performers in the Wooden Block Band.

No matter what the outcome, the process of building together is especially exciting for many of the students who spend time in After. The block area provides opportunities for building not only the many imaginative constructions, but also collaborations, partnerships, and budding communities.
