A pizza puzzle in our class inspired weeks of activities based around one of our favorite foods, pizza!! The dramatic play area in our classroom has been transformed into “The Pizza Place”.

The children created one large group pizza together by painting tomato sauce and adding cheese cut from tissue paper and topping made with construction paper.

Integrating literacy activities came naturally to this topic of interest. The children made signs for our restaurant and we read books about pizza making and about restaurants.

While constructing our class pizza we were able to discuss math topics such as fractions. What was a half or a quarter of our pizza pie? How many slices were in our pie and how many mushrooms did we put on the pie?
